Factors Affecting the Healing of Pressure Ulcers

Abstract

|
Pressure ulcers are the most serious manifestation of impaired skin integrity. It develops in all types of medical facilities such as acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, home care, and hospices, and reflect the worldwide increase in the elderly population and chronic and seriously ill patients. Many conditions can compromise healing of pressure ulcers. Healing is influenced by systemic conditions or by local conditions in the pressure ulcers such as age, tissue oxygen, stress, nutrition, and infection, underlying diseases. Specific interventions can modify or correct a number of these conditions. Hence, this article identify various factors affecting the healing of pressure ulcers according to individual characteristics and characteristics of pressure ulcers and intervention of pressure ulcers.
